Create Mods / Data Packs / Addons / Texture Packs
Minecraft is a digital canvas of unlimited possibilities. Four things that anyone can create include Mods (Java edition), Data packs (Java Edition), Addons (Bedrock Edition), and Texture Packs (Both Versions). Whether you want to improve your programming skills, or learning to design pixel art, creating content is very enjoyable. The best part is the fun experiences that you give to others through your content.

About Gilded Bedrock: Our History and How we Make Money
1️⃣ Choose Platform
2️⃣ Learn to Create
3️⃣ Create
4️⃣ Publish
5️⃣ Monetize
First, choose your platform. I recommend choosing the version you play on most, so that you can experience the packs yourself before release.
Texture Packs– Create new textures or shaders. (Recommended for all creators, especially artists)
Bedrock Edition
- Addons– Customize and add new features to Minecraft. Most changes are developed using JSON files, but a new system called the Script API is continuously being developed by Mojang. Script API’s are very powerful for interacting in the game, and are programmed in JavaScript. (Beginner – Advanced)
Java Edition
- Mods– Can vary in scope, ranging from small tweaks and adjustments to large overhauls that introduce entirely new gameplay mechanics, features, items, or even entirely new dimensions to the Minecraft universe. Mods are typically developed using programming languages like Java (Advanced)
- Data Packs– Customize and modify the gameplay experience by altering game elements without altering the game’s code itself. They are collections of files that can add new advancements, functions, loot tables, recipes, structures, and more (Moderate – Advanced)
Now that you have decided your platform you will be making your creations on, start to learn and tinker around with the systems. There are many tools that can help speed up development.
Useful Tools to Learn
- Texture and Model Design
- Blockbench: Helpful for creating voxel textures and models
- Addon Creation
- Bridge: A free Minecraft addon creator that makes it easy to make addons for Bedrock Edition.
- Bedrock Wiki: Has lots of tutorials, documentation, and any information you might need when developing addons.
- Bedrock Addon Discord– Great Community where you can ask questions, showcase your work, and learn from experts!
- Mod Development
- Forge development: Mod development is complicated, but this development environment helps simplify the proccess
- Codecademy: A great programming language learning website that guides you through basic to advanced Java programming, to build your modding skills
- Data Pack Creation
- Minecraft Wiki: Has a guide, as well as many tools to help with data pack creation
You’ve learned how to create content, now go on and actually make something. It can be anything, the important thing is that you actually make it. It doesn’t matter how simple it seems, but push through and finish it.
If you are struggling coming up with ideas for what to make, look through past content. Browse through Planet Minecraft packs, mods, and texture packs, and try to recreate one. Just know that even a simple pack takes time and lots of work.
When creating a pack, create a Google Doc to plan out your ideas, and outline all the features in a way that you will remember, and make a step by step schedule to stay on track.
To publish your content, you need both a platform to put it on, and a place to host your files.
There are many platforms you can publish your packs on. The best option is to post it to lots of platforms, as this will increase your reach and the amount of users that see your content. Some good Website include Planet Minecraft, MCPEDL, CurseForge, and Modrinth
To make a true professional brand for yourself, make your own personal website to publish your content. It is a great experience to create a website and customize it for yourself and the content you make. That’s how this site, Gilded Bedrock started!
We would recommend Hostinger to run your website on, as it is cheap and has good quality, and it is what this website uses! It is recommended to pay for at least a year, as you get a better deal.
This website runs on a Business plan paid for in advance for 4 years. With this plan you get 20% off hosting costs, which end up being about $160 for the 4 years ($40 a year). This seems like a big risk when starting out, but we have made around 3.5 times this from the website, so it is a worthy investment.
Before you purchase your website hosting, make sure that the provider allows access to all parts of your website. Some lock down certain features unless you pay extra (which is why we recommend Hostinger since we have personal experience)
In the next step, Monetize, we include several ways to make money that only work for creators with their own website.
If Hostinger is not right for you, we also have used and recommend Bluehost. It works great, but is usually a bit more expensive.
You also need a file host, which is where the pack is stored for people to download. For those who chose to create your own custom website, you can host your packs and creations on the website itself. Otherwise, you will use a service such as MediaFire to host your files.
There are two ways to make money off of your creations. Using a Paywall or Ads.
Paywall: Not recommended for most content. When you have a paywall, it removes much of the audience who would download it. Unless it is a very high quality pack, no one will be willing to pay for it. Some paywall options include publishing your pack on Patreon, Buy Me a Coffee.
Ads: This is my recommended way for monetizing content. It gives access to more users, as your content remains free, and brings in a much larger audience. It is important to keep your audience large to get the most outreach.
The way to monetize at first is generally going to be a link shortener. For example Linkvertise is a very well known platform which many creators use. It pays you for each person who visits your link, and then pays you through PayPal. This is how Gilded Bedrock first started to monetize. This is a great way to monetize when you do not have your own website and are publishing on other platforms such as Planet Minecraft or MCPEDL.
After you have a website, you should immediately start applying for an AdSense account. This is the best way to monetize your content. It pays much better than link shorteners like Linkvertise, and has much more flexibility. It takes a bit of time to create your account, so we still recommend using Linkvertise during the transition. AdSense pays very well, especially if you are getting lots of website visits. Now keep publishing content, as the more content you have, the more visitors, and the more revenue!
YouTube and Twitch
Building a successful Minecraft channel on YouTube or Twitch is tough but rewarding. It takes dedication, hard work, and creativity. If you’re truly passionate about Minecraft and consistently deliver engaging content, your enthusiasm will attract a loyal following over time.
1️⃣ Passion
2️⃣ Unique Ideas
3️⃣ Create Channel
4️⃣ Consistency
5️⃣ Monetize
The first step to creating any successful YouTube or Twitch channel is to be passionate. Find a passion, whether it be building redstone contraptions, playing manhunt challenges with a friend, making helpful tutorials, reviewing mods, survival gameplay, speedrunning, or playing on a server, or starting your own server.
If you are truly passionate, it will show through your videos and personality, and people will enjoy your content. It will be difficult to start, as you will have no viewers, and no subscibers, but with passion, you will slowly grow a following.
After you have decided your passion, try to come up with a list of ideas and video/stream concepts that you are interested in, and that you think that your target audience will be interested in. I would recommend writing these down in a Google Doc or notebook.
Think of your audience, and what would they would be interested in. Are they in middle school? High School? Older? Younger? What are the interests of this group?
Attempt to come up with unique ideas or twists that will make you stand out from other channels. Even simple unique ideas can lead to a large increase of views. If you are stuck coming up with ideas, you can use tools such as ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas, although I recommend trying out lots of different ideas and seeing what works best/gets the most viewers.
Now comes the big decision. Will you stream on Twitch or make videos on YouTube?
YouTube is recommended for beginners, as it has a larger audience and is better for producing high quality videos. Twitch is good for people who are very charismatic and can interact well with a live audience. Humor can help grow your popularity on Twitch as well.
Make sure to name your channel well, as it is your brand, and is difficult to change down the line. It should reflect the theme of your channel, and be somewhat catchy to say.
The most difficult part of making a successful channel is not the ideas or the video making, but dedication and consistency.
One good video is not enough to grow a channel. It takes lots of content, experimenting with different ideas, while growing your brand and image. Only after many months of dedication will you see the results of your work. This is another reason why passion is important, as it gets you through difficult times.
A good way to stay consistent is to devise a plan for your upload schedule. Make a plan to make a video every week, and stick to it. Set aside two hours each weekend to record a video, then edit the next day. Don’t procrastinate or try to put it off, just do it.
This is the step that takes the longest to reach. By now, you should have found your passion, created your channel, and spent hundreds of hours making videos.
To monetize on YouTube, you have to reach 1000 subscribers, and 4000 watch hours in the last year. This is where your consistency and passionate work pay off. After you reach this goal, YouTube will have you create an AdSense account, and then you will start making money!

There are many other ways to make money when making videos, such as affiliate links and sponsorships. Affiliate links are an easier way to make money that does not require a minimum subscriber count or view count. Some good options for affiliate links include Apex Hosting, GG Servers, and Shockbyte. Sponsorships are more difficult, and generally require a larger audience. You can find more information here, yet sposnorships generally have several minimum requirements.
